What I wish I had known: Burnout and self care in our activism |
Tino Verducci |
If we work too hard at what we love, we get tired. The solution to that is rest. "Burnout" as a term was first applied by Freudenberger (1975) to describe what happens when a practitioner becomes increasingly "inoperative". Burnout is a state of emotional, mental, and physical exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress. As the stress continues, you begin to lose the interest or motivation that led you to take on a certain role in the first place. This workshop will explain how to avoid burning yourself out, how to take good care of yourself, and how to manage your time so that you`re using it in the most effective way possible. |
